The process

Fingerling selection

Two days prior to leaving the hatchery, fingerlings are graded and given a preventative parasite treatment. On the morning of dispatch, fingerlings are conditioned for transporting through fasting.

Aeration and packaging

SuperTilapia fingerlings are aerated to ensure enough oxygen, packed in two layers of plastic bags, packaged in standard styrofoam boxes for temperature control and protection against transport handling.

Transportation and shipping

SuperTilapia can help arrange air transportation for customers outside Java. Currently transportation costs differ depending on fingerling size and destination.

Improving uniformity

Super Tilapia ensures increased uniformity by grading its fingerlings 3X during the first 3 weeks. Customers just need to grade at 0.5 grams (30 days) and 3 grams (45 days) to ensure high uniformity.

For Customers outside Java, Super Tilapia provides extra fish to allow the customer to carry out the 20-day grading on the customer’s farm.

 

Ordering process

Orders must be received 7 days before being dispatched. SuperTilapia dispatches fingerlings on:

  • Wednesday
  • Friday

Recommended fish handling on arrival

Customers are highly recommended to release the young fingerlings into a small hapa net.  (1mX2mX1m) covered with protective netting to ensure the fingerlings don’t get lost or eaten by predatory birds.

To minimize mortality on transfer to the new pond, customers are recommended to follow the steps:

  • Super Tilapia fingerlings are packed in two layers of plastic bags.
  • Remove the outer plastic bag
  • Check the water temperature of plastic bag and receiving tank and make sure its within 3˚ Celsius.
  • If the difference in water temperature is > 3˚, let the bag warm up for 10 minutes and check again.
  • Once water temperature is within 3˚, float the inner plastic bag on the water of the receiving tank
  • Let the temperature of plastic bag transport water adapt to receiving tank temperature
  • Adapt the fish to the new environment by slowly adding water from the receiving tank into the plastic bag by adding 1 lt every 10 minutes
  • Use a dipping net to take out the fish from the plastic bag
  • Discard the transport water from the plastic bag (after disinfecting with chlorine)
  • Start feeding fingerling gradually as soon as they start swimming
